From 6 to 8 August, classic yachts will gather in Sandhamn for three days of racing, social activities and sailing history. The Sandhamnsregattan dates back to 1897 and remains a vibrant meeting place for some of Sweden’s best-preserved classic yachts.
The regatta’s history began in 1897, when King Oscar II inaugurated the KSSS clubhouse in Sandhamn. The jubilee regatta held in connection with the inauguration attracted no fewer than 93 boats. Over the years, the regatta has evolved and adapted to new boat types and racing formats, while classic yachts have continued to play a natural and important role.
This year’s Sandhamnsregatta brings together Classic Yachts for racing on the waters off Sandhamn. Several of the boats are more than one hundred years old and represent an important part of Swedish sailing history, yacht design and craftsmanship. For participants and visitors, the event offers three days where competition, tradition and the joy of sailing come together in one of Sweden’s best-known sailing venues.
